A meaningful place does not need to be famous or connected to a documented ancestor. It might be somewhere you lived, a view remembered from a visit, a setting encountered through art or a place you hope to understand better. Tell us what the connection is and be clear about whether it comes from firsthand experience or imagination. The value of the story lies in your perspective, not in proving that others should feel the same.
- What broad place would you like to describe?
- When or how did it become meaningful to you?
- Which detail helps explain the feeling without revealing private locations?
- Has your understanding of that place changed over time?
Respect current residents and private property when describing a location. If your story involves a future visit, distinguish your hopes from confirmed access or arrangements, and leave room for the place to surprise you.
Respect differences in identity and experience; nobody must prove ancestry. Share only photographs you have permission to publish, and protect the privacy of living people mentioned in your story.
